Foundation Activities

Mock Trials

Local high school mock trial teams, guided by teachers and attorneys, serve as lawyers and witnesses in mini-trials in the classroom and in state, regional and national competitions.

Training Symposium for Teachers

Educators meet to learn methods for teaching students about the law, including how laws affect individuals and the community. Much of this training was completed in partnership with the University of Central Florida’s Lou Frey Institute for Politics and Government. Law Week

Law Week activities, spanning several months, include Goldilocks mock trials for elementary school students; DUI mock trials for middle and high school students presided over by judges, attorneys, and police officers, with students serving as jurors; student job shadowing with judges; lawyer in-class presentations; presentations by a person convicted of DUI Manslaughter and the legal and personal consequences of the conviction; student poster and essay contests; and the Naturalization Ceremony.

Justice Teaching

The Foundation supports the Florida Supreme Court’s call for attorneys to volunteer to assist in teaching civics at Florida’s schools.See articles in back issues of The Briefs, or visit the Foundations’ Facebook page.

Law Magnet Program

The Foundation supports the Orange County Public School’s Law Magnet Program by providing guest speakers and judges for the annual mock trial competition. See articles in back issues of the Briefs, or visit the Foundation’s Facebook page.

Boys and Girls Clubs

The Foundation has been a partner with various Boys and Girls Clubs. Board members have served as educational speakers for the annual Summer Zone experience. See articles in back issues of the Briefs, or visit the Foundation’s Facebook page.

AVID

The Foundation has supported the Advancement Via Individual Determination Program, an elementary and post-secondary college readiness system that is designed to increase scholastic learning and performance. Volunteer Board members have served as guest speakers to inspire participants in the program to rise to academic challenges.

A Gift for Teaching
