House Bill (HB 337), which was passed unanimously, raised the existing $15,000 county court threshold to $30,000 on January 1, 2020. This change had its origins in the Supreme Court’s “Workgroup on County Court Jurisdiction.” The legislative change will also raise the $30,000 threshold to $50,000 on January 1, 2023. Concurrent with these changes, on November 14, 2019, the Florida Supreme Court issued SC19-1354 which increased the small claims jurisdictional limit from $5,000 to $8,000, effective January 1, 2020.
