Orange County Bar Association Statement on Takeover of the United States Capitol
The leadership of the Orange County Bar Association issues the following statement:
The Orange County Bar Association joins the American Bar Association and several other bar associations across the country in condemning the violence displayed on January 6th at the United States Capitol. As officers of the court, we are dedicated to civility, professionalism, and the rule of law. While we may not always agree, as members of the Bar, we are bound and professionally obligated to support and uphold the rule of law upon which our democratic republic is founded. As lawyers, we must always respect the constitutional right to peacefully protest. However, lawless violence in the name of these rights and in response to one of the most fundamental processes in our democracy is intolerable and dangerous. Such behavior violates the very core principles of our Constitution.
Although these actions took place in Washington, D.C., the wake of these events have had a ripple effect throughout our country and local community. It is up to each of us to forge a path forward by agreeing to safeguard our constitutional underpinnings and commit to the peaceful resolution of conflict.
