OCBA members are invited to join us for a live webinar overview of the Florida Bar’s lawyer certification program, what it means to be board certified, advantages to participating tips for success in exam preparation and the impact that COVID-19 has had on the Board Certification process including the Florida Supreme Court’s recent administrative order.

Bios:
David Willis is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in Business Litigation, Construction Law and Real Estate Law, David Willis devotes his practice to construction, real estate and commercial matters. Board Certification is the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar for competency, experience, ethics, and professionalism. David is one of 15 Florida attorneys who are certified in three areas. David currently serves on the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization & Education. He is a member of the BLSE Executive Committee and incoming vice chair. He previously served on The Florida Bar Construction Law Certification Committee from 2010-2016 and has held the vice chair and chair positions. The Committee is responsible for reviewing applications for Board Certification and preparing the certification examination. David also served on The Florida Bar Business Litigation Certification Committee from 2004-2010 including serving as vice chair.
Jessica Travis is Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law. She has served on the Florida Bar Criminal Certification Committee from 2014 to 2018, and as chair of the committee from 2017-2018. She has served as Chair of the OCBA Criminal Law Committee, and currently serves as Executive Producer of the OCBA podcast, The Legal Limit. She also serves on the OCBA’s Executive Council, and is past president of the OCBA Foundation.

Passive Fire Protection in Residential Wood-Framed ConstructionDescription: This course is designed to teach construction law attorneys, and other interested parties, some of the basic code requirements regarding passive fire protection in wood-framed construction.
Subject Matter: Understanding basic residential code requirements regarding passive fire protection. Passive fire protection includes the fire-resistant materials and construction intended to compartmentalize fire and limit its spread. This is in contrast with active fire protection systems such as fire sprinklers and smoke detectors. Participants will learn what is required by code in this regard, and how such code requirements are commonly constructed. Examples and case studies of each type of fire protection features will be discussed.
Course Evaluation:
This course will conclude with a Question and Answer session involving the entire class to further expand on the topics covered.
After the Q & A session, every attendee will be given a course evaluation to complete.
